My dance with yoga began in the early ‘70s. My very first experience was a hatha yoga class at West Valley College. This class, and the beautiful teacher who guided us through a new way to move and think, left a deep impression on me.
My flirtations with yoga continued into the 80’s and 90’s, but my real relationship with the practice developed as we entered the new millennium. My interest shifted from a purely asana practice to a more balanced practice incorporating pranayama (breathing practices), meditation and the study of spiritual texts.
In 2010 I received my 200-Hour Yoga Alliance Certification at Mt. Madonna and began teaching. I completed my 500-Hour certification with Jennifer Prugh at Breathe Together Los Gatos.
Over the years I’ve taken many classes/workshops in studios, gyms and high school cafeterias from well-known teachers to those who were not so well known. All were an inspiration in some small or large way.
My dance continues, teaching and learning new steps every time I practice.
I balance the classes I teach with breath work, meditation and asana practice. I strive to meet my students' needs with adjustments, modifications and encouragement. Each and every class I learn something new from my students. As my teacher Baba Hari Dass writes, “teach to learn.”
Between poses I enjoy playing and teaching western style mahjongg. I am fortunate to live in the beautiful Santa Cruz mountains with my husband Tim and our kitty Beatrix.
